While House Speaker Boehner is well-known for his attempts to repeal Obamacare and for shutting down the government last year, a little known fact about him is that he has openly admitted, on tape, to having handed out checks from Big Tobacco in exchange for subsidies on the House floor during the 90’s.
“They [the lobbyists] asked me to give out a half-dozen checks, quickly, before we got to the end of the month — and I complied…I did it on the House floor, which I regret…should not have done. It’s not a violation of the House rules…but…uhm…it’s a practice that’s gone on here for a long time that we’re trying to stop and I know that I’ll never do it again.”
